I used dynamite primarily because it's a known thing that he used. There's really not that many weapons in New Vegas for him to craft, either. I actually use Repair as one of his Tag abilities, but I prefer the failed intelligence check responses for his personality. It takes no time at all for him to kick some ass and get everybody around on his side, and combined with his one liners and speeches, I consider his charisma to be far above his actual intelligence, regardless of his ability to build mechanical things. I find that the most people who really hate him upon first meeting him are because they think he's a slave or because they think he's a murderer.
